35th Maharashtra State Junior Athletic Championship was carried out in SVJCT’s sports complex. Under 14 and 16 category events were held on 17th and 18th August comprising of 1180 athletes. The event continued on 19th and 20th August for under 18 category with 640 athetes participation. Total of 1820 athletes from all across Maharashtra state i.e. Latur, Aurangabad, Beed, Nagpur, Akola, Mumbai, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, Pune, Ahmednagar participated in this event. The events such as Running, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, Hammer Throw were carried out in these four days. The championship was honored by presence of Mr. Satish Uchil, General Secretary of Maharashtra Athletics Association (MAA), Mr. Sandeep Tawade from Ratnagiri district athletic association, other technical members, judges and spectetors.
In spite of heavy rains, there was no water logging in the sports academy complex and the competitions were held without any disruptions for which the parents and the participants expressed extreme satisfaction, especially the ones from flood affected areas like Sangli and Kolhapur. Advanced photo finish technology was used for the event which helped to get instant and accurate results. Age of the participants was confirmed with the help of digital x-ray machines from Walawalkar hospital which is in the same premises as that of SVJCT sports academy. Organizers were gratified to have an array of all such facilities being available in the same premises.
Special take away from this competition is that, Aditi Bugad from Kolhapur flagged a new state level record of 43.38 meter in the discus throw event.
